TikTok family vlogger creators respond to allegations of child abandonment
"We take our role as parents extremely seriously."
Family vloggers have often received backlash over the years, along with some awful news coming to light regarding abuse resulting in prison time being sentenced.
Most recently, TikTok family vlogger creators Matt and Abby Howard have been facing some serious backlash against their parenting regarding their two toddlers.
The couple, who have a joint TikTok account named “matt_and_abby” with 5.3 million followers, decided to leave their two young children in their cruise ship room whilst they ate dinner.
One Instagram story showed the two creators setting up facetime baby monitors in order to be able to watch over their 2-year-old and 13-month-old children.
“So we ended up taking them for five nights and it became apparent that they weren’t enjoying it and therefore we weren’t either,” they explained.
“So then we switched our dinner time to after their bedtime and facetimed the monitors while we ate.”
The mother explained in a recent Instagram Story that normal baby monitors don’t work on the cruise ship “unless you’re only like 10 feet away,” which is why they used facetime instead.
“And that worked out much better for everyone,” she added.
They were quick to respond to the backlash, claiming they did have someone watching over their children at all times in a recent TikTok video, as well as claiming all allegations are false.
“We usually would not be making a video like this,” they said.
“But there is information circulating that is completely untrue,” said Matt.
“We take our role as parents extremely seriously.”
“We are very protective of our kids,” Matt added.
He went on to say they were with Abby’s extended family on the cruise ship, Abby spoke up and said: “I can see where my story did lead to misunderstanding, which is why I ended up deleting it several hours after posting it.”
They both went on to say they were thankful to the extended family, however, not everyone believed their story.
“If someone was in the room, why have monitors on and make that announcement? Just say, we took turns sitting with them,” one commented.
“You are sooo naive. You know they have to do this to cover their ass right?”
“Matt and Abby are just problematic in general, as are most family vloggers,” another said.
Fans that are sticking up for the TikTok couple are praising them as “amazing parents” and “they knew there was more to the story.”
